Summary
The app controls your KNX installation directly on your home network. It has no user account, no server of its own, no ads, no analytics or crash reporting, and shares no data with third parties. The provider receives no data from you unless you email it yourself (see Feedback).
What is stored on the device
- Your setup: installation name, rooms, functions, group addresses, favourites and the connection details for the KNX interface (IP address, port, connection type).
- For KNX Secure: tunnel password and device code (each as a derived key), backbone key and keys of secured group addresses, together with the last seen sequence counters of the sending devices (protection against replayed telegrams). These are kept exclusively in the operating system's protected storage (iOS Keychain, Android Keystore).
- Your app scenes. The app passes the names of up to four scenes to the operating system for the shortcuts on the app icon and, on Android, for the “Scenes” widget and the quick settings tiles. On the iPhone it passes the names of all scenes to Siri and the Shortcuts app so that you can start them by voice or automation.
- Voice commands: if you say “Open … in Swisstoggel KNX” to Google Assistant, Google processes the speech under its own privacy policy and only passes the recognised words to the app. With Siri, Apple processes the speech; the app only receives the name of the scene. The app itself records nothing.
- NFC stickers: the app writes only a link with the name of the scene (swisstoggel://scene/Name) and the name of the app to a sticker. Anyone who reads the sticker with a phone sees this scene name.
- Your floor plans: the inserted plans as picture files in the app's storage, traced plans including their lines and the original as background, and where the functions sit on them. “Export setup” takes the plans along. “Remove project” deletes them.
- Your room pictures: photos you choose for a room, without location and camera data, as picture files in the app's storage, and where the functions sit on them. Like the floor plans, “Export setup” takes them along and “Remove project” deletes them.
- Your designed house: floors, rooms, roof and chosen weather sensors.
- Your settings for theme and language.
- If the app cannot read a stored setup, it keeps a copy that you can send yourself with “Share copy”.
This data only leaves the device when you choose “Export setup” or “Share copy” yourself, and with the operating system's device backup (Google or iCloud backup) if you use it. Exported files and the device backup contain no passwords or keys; you decide where a file goes in the share menu. Deleting the app removes all data. “Remove project” removes the setup, app scenes and keys of the project shown; other projects and the theme and language settings remain.
Network
The app only connects to the KNX IP interface or KNX IP router that you set up or select in the device search (KNXnet/IP, port 3671, multicast 224.0.23.12). There are no connections to the internet.
- The device search (only when you tap it) queries all KNX IP devices on the home network via multicast and tells them your device's IP address; the devices answer with name and serial number.
- With routing, telegrams go via multicast to all KNX IP devices on the network.
- For the group monitor the app keeps the last 500 telegrams in memory only. As a CSV file (time, sender and group addresses, values, room and function names) they only leave the device if you send them yourself via the share menu.
- For the history of sensor values and room temperatures the app keeps the last 720 values per sensor, also in memory only.
- For the “Diagnostics” page the app keeps the connection history (connected, disconnected, reason for failure). Only you send the report via the share menu. It contains the app version, platform, address and port of the interface, Secure user ID, source address and the last 100 connection states with time – but no names, passwords or keys.
Files
ETS projects, ETS keyrings, backups, images and PDFs for the floor plan and photos for room pictures are only read when you select them. Of a floor plan the app keeps a cleaned-up copy as an image, of a room picture a copy of the photo. The app takes rooms, functions and keys from them; the file itself is not kept.
Feedback
“Send feedback” (in the menu, in the settings, under “About” and as “Report a problem” on the “Diagnostics” page) opens your own mail app with a prepared email to info@swisstoggel.ch. The app itself sends nothing. The email contains your message with type and subject, optionally (on by default) the app version, platform with operating system version and language, and only from “Diagnostics”, optionally the diagnostics report. Names of the installation, rooms and functions are not included. You see the full text in your mail app and can change it before sending. We receive the email like any other with your sender address and use it only to reply and to improve the app. If there is no mail app, the same text goes to the share menu.
Permissions
- Android: network access and multicast (for KNX routing and device search), NFC (writing scenes to NFC stickers and starting them from there; without prompts, without data transfer).
- iOS: access to the local network (device search and connection to the interface).
Purchase of the full version
The full version is sold as an in-app purchase via Google Play or the App Store. The respective store operator processes your account and payment data under its own privacy policy. We receive no payment data; the app only checks locally whether the purchase exists.
Your rights
As the provider processes no personal data, there is nothing to disclose or delete. We are happy to answer questions at the address above. You can lodge complaints with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, in the EU, with your supervisory authority.
